Support the Humanities: Scroop-Reid Childcare Bursary

Flora on Wrightsville Beach, September 2015

In 2016, NHC Fellow Daniel Scroop and literary scholar Julia Reid lost their beloved three-year-old daughter, Flora, shortly after concluding their year at the National Humanities Center.

Daniel and Julia understood that funding childcare in a new city is challenging and often presents a significant financial hardship to scholars during their time at the Center. Therefore, in memory of Flora, the couple established this childcare bursary to help defray preschool childcare costs for a Fellow and their family every year.

Please consider making a gift to make it possible for the Center to supplement these much needed resources for a Fellow in next year’s class.

The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by IRS regulations. Donors receive the Center’s publications, as well as invitations to events and lectures, and are recognized in the National Humanities Center Annual Report.
