Support the Humanities: Flora Scroop-Reid Childcare Bursary

Flora on Wrightsville Beach, September 2015

In 2016, NHC Fellow Daniel Scroop and literary scholar Julia Reid lost their beloved three-year-old daughter, Flora, shortly after concluding their year at the National Humanities Center.

Daniel and Julia understood that funding childcare in a new city is challenging and often presents a significant financial hardship to scholars during their time at the Center. Therefore, in memory of Flora, the couple established this childcare bursary to help defray preschool childcare costs for a Fellow and their family every year.

Please consider making a gift to make it possible for the Center to supplement these much needed resources for a Fellow in next year’s class.

The National Humanities Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by IRS regulations.
