Karen Halttunen wrote two hundred pages of her book, Murder and the Gothic Imagination in American Culture, and blocked out the remaining chapter. With co-editor Lewis Perry, she planned a volume of essays, Moral Problems in American Life: New Perspectives on Cultural History, to be published by Cornell University Press, and she revised "Humanitarianism and the Pornography of Pain in Anglo-American Culture" (American Historical Review, April 1995).
