Donald S. Lopez, Jr. wrote Prisoners of Shangri-La: Tibetan Buddhism and the West, a book accepted for publication in early 1998 by the University of Chicago Press. He also gave a talk on "Does the Third Eye Blink? The Specters and Scepters of Tibetan Buddhism" in the National Humanities Center's public lecture series.
