Travel

The National Humanities Center reimburses for travel to and from your home. As you begin to make travel arrangements, please book flights to RDU that arrive on Sunday, July 16, 2023 and leave after 3pm on Friday, July 21, 2023.

The Center reimburses commercial air, rail, and bus transportation fares for economy/coach fares. You may request reimbursements for air, rail, and bus transportation after May 15, 2023.

If you are traveling by car, the Center reimburses mileage at the current IRS rate. You may request reimbursement for car travel after May 15, 2023.

Lodging

We will host you at the Hyatt House Brier Creek (10030 Sellona St, Raleigh, NC 27617) near the Center and provide transportation to and from the hotel to the Center.

Meals

The Center will provide breakfast and lunch during the week of the event. Please let us know about your dietary needs in the pre-institute information collection form.

Cancellations

If you need to withdraw from the institute, please contact Meredith Graham and NHC Education Programs. Participants who cancel prior to May 15, 2023 will receive a full refund. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations after that date.

The cancellation policy is available online and will be included in the pre-institute information collection form. To participate in the institute, you must agree to the cancellation policy terms.

Expectations for Attendance and Participation

Institute Attendance

The institute runs from Monday, July 17, 2023 at 8:30am through Friday, July 21, 2023 at 3pm. Participants are expected to attend the full institute and engage in all activities.

Optional Events

Participants are invited to attend the following optional events:

  • Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 7pm: Ice cream sundae and trivia night at the Center
  • Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 6pm: Catered dinner in the conference room at the hotel
Orientation

Participants are invited to attend the Graduate Student Summer Residency orientation on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 3pm. If you were not able to attend the orientation, please watch the recording emailed to you.

Homework ahead of the Graduate Student Summer Residency

In order to participate in the workshops throughout the residency, please bring two printed copies of the following documents:

  • Updated CV
  • Updated resume
  • Two job advertisements (one academic and one non academic)
  • Course syllabus to workshop
