Gabriel Eljaiek-Rodriguez, Scholarly Programs Research Manager
Gabriel Eljaiek-Rodríguez is a writer, researcher, and educator. Since July 2025, he has been the Scholarly Programs Research Manager at the National Humanities Center. As a research manager, Gabriel focuses on program development, grant writing, and assisting the Vice President for Scholarly Programs with research-related program duties, including convening, moderating, and outreach. Prior to joining the NHC team, he was a member of the 2024–25 NHC fellowship class.

Before he arrived in the US, Gabriel worked at the Instituto Pensar in Bogotá, a think tank that focuses on the social sciences and humanities. In the US, he earned his PhD from Emory University. Gabriel is an experienced educator who has held faculty positions at Spelman College, the Savannah College of Art and Design, George Washington University, and Lawrence University.

Gabriel has written extensively on Latin American Gothic, global horror cinema, cultural migration, and the relationships between politics and cinematic horror. He is the author of Selva de fantasmas: El gótico en la literatura y el cine latinoamericanos (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 2017), The Migration and Politics of Monsters in Latin American Cinema (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), Colombian Gothic in Cinema and Literature (Anthem Press, 2021), and Baroque Aesthetic in Contemporary American Horror (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). His forthcoming book project analyzes the uses of folkloric monsters in Latin American cinema.
