January 15–March 27, 2019
Featuring selected works by North Carolina artists, No Citation Needed is an exploration of systems of learning and the transfer of knowledge inside and outside of traditional education settings, juxtaposing formal K–12 and college education with lessons passed down through families in order to discuss their similarities and differences.
Exhibiting artists were asked to consider their personal experiences and how systems of learning create opportunities and inequities. They were further prompted to explore the gaps in our educational system, supplemental learning, and to consider the types of education we value, what education visually looks like, and to reflect on those who benefit from spreading ignorance.
No Citation Needed is presented in partnership with the Visual Art Exchange as part of an ongoing program to feature the work of artists living and working in North Carolina.
