The National Humanities Center (NHC) is pleased to announce the establishment of its President’s Circle to recognize institutional sponsors who have distinguished themselves through exceptional support of the Center and its mission. The founding members of the NHC’s President’s Circle include:
North Carolina State University
Princeton University
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Utah
Yale University
These seven institutions lead a group of over 100 sponsors who support the work of the NHC in advancing important humanities research and making humanities insights and methods more readily available for use in the classroom and beyond. NHC sponsors include institutions of all sizes and types, representing 33 US states and the District of Columbia.
Type of Institution | Number of Sponsors |
R1 Research Universities | 34 |
Public | 48 |
Private | 45 |
Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other Minority-Serving Institutions | 12 |
Corporations and Foundations | 10 |
These institutional partners help the NHC deliver career-growth opportunities for faculty and students in a variety of ways. For instance, participating colleges and universities are exclusively eligible to nominate faculty to the Center’s four-week summer residency program, which allows humanities scholars to jump-start or focus on a research project with dedicated support from the NHC’s library and scholarly programs staff. Sponsoring institutions also are provided opportunities to partner with the NHC on new initiatives like our ongoing Responsible AI curriculum development project or to send faculty, administrators, or students to participate in one of the Center’s many intensive professional development programs. Since 2019, these programs have helped over 1,200 scholars and graduate students acquire new skills and network with colleagues from other institutions.
President’s Circle membership entitles institutions to take advantage of additional sponsorship benefits, including the opportunity to use the Center’s facilities for regional events such as alumni gatherings, and to use fee waivers of up to $3,000 on behalf of a scholar, staff member, or graduate student to participate in one of the Center’s professional development programs.
