From the publisher’s description:
This book focuses on the school as an institution and its problems in a modern, highly industrialised society. In such a society formal education has become an increasingly important asset in the life career of an individual and the economic development of society. The essays were chosen for their relevance to processes of educational change and innovation, their initiation and the role played by research. The first part aims to identify the problems and describe their settings. The second part takes up the role of research and what it can and cannot achieve. The third part discusses strategies of educational reform and in particular their social and political ramifications.
