Fellowship Work Summary, 1996–97

Stephen Vlastos wrote "Tradition: Past/ Present Culture and Modern Japanese History," a critical introduction to Mirror of Modernity: Invented Traditions of Modern Japan, which is to be published by the University of California Press in 1998. He also did extensive research for his forthcoming book on radical agrarian movements in prewar Japan and completed one of the chapters.
