Fellowship Work Summary, 1993–94

Shepard Krech, III drafted five chapters on his project on the Ecological Indian. He completed three chapters and edited Passionate Hobby: Rudolf Frederick Haffenreffer and the King Philip Museum (Haffenreffer Museum and University of Washington Press, 1994), and he also worked on the revised edition of Native Canadian Anthropology and History: A Selected Bibliography (University of Oklahoma Press, 1994). He served as a panelist at the annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association. “Ecology and the American Indian,” a lecture he gave at the National Humanities Center, was published in the Summer 1994 issue of the Center’s journal Ideas.

Fellowship Work Summary, 2000–01

Shepard Krech, III focused his research on the intersection of birds and North American Indians, examining over 1,100 related sources. With Carolyn Merchant and John McNeill he began editing The International Encyclopedia of Environmental History (Routledge, forthcoming, 2003).
