Sally Smith Hughes completed drafts of three chapters and most of a fourth for her book Splicing Genes, Spawning an Industry: Genentech and the Rise of Commercial Biotechnology. Hughes is a research specialist in the history of science at the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.
