Richard H. Grove completed his two-volume study, Nature and the Orient: Essays in the Environmental History of South and Southeast Asia (Oxford University Press). He drafted Ecology, Climate, and Empire: Global Environmental History, 1500-1960, and wrote some chapters of a third book, The East India Company and the Natural World. He worked on several essays: "Insularism and Empires: The Significance of St. Helena and Montserrat"; "Jeanne Baret: Hidden Scientist and Pioneer Circumnavigator, 1764-1775"; and "Imperial Legacy or Californian Innovation: Towards a Historiography of Environmental History," for volume five of the Oxford History of the British Empire.
