Fellowship Work Summary, 1993–94

Philip Benedict drafted three hundred pages of his book, Calvinism and Society: The Reformed Tradition in Europe in 1500, and completed and revised a chapter on the religious history of France in the sixteenth century for the forthcoming Handbook of European History, 1400-1600. He researched and wrote an essay on visual propaganda and polemics in the French Wars of Religion—"Of Marmites and Martyrs: Images and Polemics in the Wars of Religion"—for the catalogue accompanying "French Prints of the Sixteenth Century," an exhibition appearing in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and Paris in 1994-95. He reviewed books for scholarly journals and newspapers, including Le Monde.
