Fellowship Work Summary, 1996–97

Pamela H. Simpson finished the manuscript of Cheap, Quick, and Easy: Imitative Architectural Materials, 1870—1930, forthcoming from the University of Tennessee Press. She submitted three book reviews to Woman's Art Journal and wrote several essays—"Reflections on White Columns: Musings on the Architecture of Washington and Lee" for the university's 250th anniversary volume to appear in 1998; "The Valley of Virginia, An Overview" (with Anne McCleary) for the Buildings of the United States Series published by Oxford University Press for the Society of Architectural Historians; and "Substitute Gimrackery: Ornamental Architectural Materials, 1870—1930," a piece for the National Humanities Center's journal Ideas (Vol. 5, No. 1) that derived from her public lecture at the Center.
