Fellowship Work Summary, 2010–11

Martha Ann Selby completed work on Tamil Love Poetry: The 500 Short Poems of the "Aiṅkurunūru" (Columbia University Press, 2011) which she translated and edited, and made substantial progress on Sanskrit Gynecologies: The Semiotics of Gender and Femininity in the Medical Literature of Classical South Asia. Her paper on "Women as Patients and Practitioners in Early Sanskrit Medical Literature" will appear in a volume of conference proceedings. She also finished a journal article, "The Color of Gender: On Substance, Sex Determination, and Anatomical Difference in the Medical Texts of Ancient India."
