Fellowship Work Summary, 1993–94

Mark Mazower embarked upon his main project, an interpretation of the struggle for democracy in twentieth-century Europe, for which he drafted five chapters. The work is to be published by Knopf/Vintage and Hamish Hamilton/ Penguin. He also wrote an essay, "Raphael Lemkin: Law and Morality in the Twentieth Century," which examines the origins of the Genocide Convention and the impact of the Second World War on international law. He contributed articles on the current situation in the Balkans to War Report and The Guardian.
