Fellowship Work Summary, 1994–95

Jack M. Sasson completed editorial work and proofing for Civilizations ofthe Ancient Near East, a four-volume reference work published by Scribners in June 1995. He finished initial research for and began writing The Life and Times of Zimri-Lim, King of Mari, his project at the National Humanities Center, and revised three essays slated for publication in 1995-96: "'Water Beneath Straw': Adventures of a Prophetic Phrase in the Mari Archives," in Biblical, Epigraphic, and Semitic Studies in Honor of Jonas C. Greenfield; "On Reading the Diplomatic Letters in the Mari Archives," in a collection of essays on Ebla, Mari et les Hurrites; and "Mari Apocalypticism Revisited," for a festschrift, Immigration and Emigration within the Near East.
