Fellowship Work Summary, 1991–92

Jack Goody concentrated on his project at the Center, a book entitled East and West. He drafted the first chapter ("Rationality in Review"), revised and augmented a second ("Rationality and Bookkeeping"), and wrote sections of several others. He also revised a paper on "Funerals and Antitheatricality," added to an essay called "Knots in May" about rites of May, maypoles, and trees of liberty (forthcoming, Journal of Mediterranean Studies), and reworked two chapters and wrote the final chapter of The Expanding Moment: A Partial History of British Social Anthropology.
