Fellowship Work Summary, 1998–99

Irene Eynat-Confino completed research and wrote four chapters for her book, Complex Simplicity: The Rhetoric of Melodrama in Popular Culture. She also submitted two essays for publication:"Exorcising a Theatrical Myth: S. Ansky's The Dybbuk" and "A Stage upon a Stage: Postmodern Stage Design and Opera." She attended the conference of the American Society for Theatre Research, held in Washington, and the conference on "Interpretation in the Arts," at Tel-Aviv University. She established the topic and the academic program for the International Conference on Scenography, held in Prague, where she also served as convener.
