Fellowship Work Summary, 1995–96

Devin Stewart drafted four chapters of his book, Intertextuality in the Maqamat of al-Hamadhäni and Islamic Religious Discourse. Among the articles he worked on were "Who Was that Masked Man?: The Alexandrian in al-Hamadhäni's Maqamat" for Edebiyat; "Husayn b. 'Abd al-Samad al-'Ämili's Treatise for Sultan Suleiman" for Islamic Law and Society; "Clitic Reduction in the Formation of Modal Prefixes" for Arabica; and "The Lost Biography of Bahä' al-Din al-'Ämili" to be included in Studies on Safavid Iran, edited by Michel Mazzaoui (University of Utah Press). He submitted reviews to the Middle East Studies Association Bulletin and to the Journal of the American Oriental Society.
