Fellowship Work Summary, 1991–92

David Lionel Smith focused on chapters dealing with Malcolm X, Eldridge Cleaver, Richard Wright, Carl Van Vechten, Norman Mailer, Cotton Mather, and Thomas Jefferson for his book, Racial Writing, Black and White. He wrote an essay, "Fictions of Reconstruction: Tragedy and Farce," to be published in The "Other" Romance, edited by Donald Pease and Jeffrey Rubin-Dorsky. In addition, he wrote several articles and did editorial work for The Encyclopedia of African-American History and Culture, of which he is an editor.
