Fellowship Work Summary, 1994–95

David L. Carlton proceeded with research on his project, "Strategies of Southern Development: The Case of North Carolina, 1865-1940" and co-authored, co-edited, and saw through press a book of readings, Confronting Southern Poverty in the Great Depression, to appear in 1995 from Bedford Books of St. Martin's Press. He revised "How American is the American South?," which will be included in The South as an American Problem (University of Georgia Press, 1995), edited by Don H. Doyle and Larry Griffin. For a collection of essays edited by Roger Lotchin, he prepared "The Effect of Military-Based Economics on Southern Communities: A Historical View."
