Claudia Leal (Donnelly Family Fellow) drafted three chapters and parts of two others for her work in progress National Parks in Colombia: A History of Territorial State Building. The first was published as “Un tesoro reservado para la ciencia. El inusual comienzo de la conservación de la naturaleza en Colombia (décadas de 1940 y 1950)” in Historia Crítica. She published “National Parks in Colombia” for The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Latin American History and revised the translation of her books Landscapes of Freedom, Building a Postemancipation Society in the Forests of Western Colombia, which will be published in Spanish in 2020 as Paisajes de Libertad by Ediciones Uniandes in Bogotá. Leal is associate professor of history at Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.
