Christian de Pee spent the year working on his book Visible Cities: Text and Urban Space in Middle-Period China, Eighth through Twelfth Centuries and wrote an introduction to Senses of the City: Perceptions of Hangzhou in the Southern Song (1127–1179), which he coedited.
