Anupama Rao did research for her project on Caste and the Colonial City: Dalit Life and Labor in Colonial Bombay and completed work on The Caste Question (University of California Press, 2009). She wrote "Who Is the Dalit? The Emergence of a New Political Subject" for Claiming Power from Below: Dalits and the Subaltern Question in India (Oxford University Press, 2008), and began work on "Caste and the Political Subject: Explorations in Anti-Caste Thought."
