Education Programs
Teaching African American Studies Summer Institute
June 16–20, 2026 at Prairie View A&M University
This weeklong institute provides an immersive, hands-on learning experience to help teachers better understand the approaches and historical perspectives required to create and teach African American studies. Codirected by members of the NHC’s education programs team and Prairie View A&M University faculty, these intensive, five-day professional development institutes for K–12 educators explore themes of race, place, and social justice through a humanities lens.

Humanities and STEM Faculty Institute
August 2–6, 2027 at Howard University
This series, a collaborative effort between the National Humanities Center and the College of Arts & Sciences at Howard University, brings together scholars and other leading experts to explore the future of interdisciplinary education and empower the next generation of scholars, educators, and campus leaders. The institute is open to all university and college faculty who are interested in exploring the intersection of humanities and STEM at institutions with diverse student populations.
Scholarly Programs
Scholarly Writing Institute
July 2–10, 2026 at the National Humanities Center
The Scholarly Writing Institute is exclusive to scholars from our Institutional Sponsor universities and colleges. The intensive, nine-day workshop is designed to provide dedicated writing time, along with expert guidance in writing and publishing to significantly advance scholarly projects. The program fosters a supportive cohort community to encourage intellectual exchange among participants.
