About Fellow
Danielle Kellogg is an associate professor of classics at the University of Cincinnati, where she holds the Theodore and Bessie Christopoulos Chair in Ancient Greek History. Her work focuses on the political history, epigraphy, and demography of Attica and Athens. In particular, she is interested in the lived experience of Athenian citizens in rural Attica, and how they experienced the rights, obligations, and perquisites of citizenship while living outside the center of political power.
Kellogg’s first monograph, Marathon Fighters and Men of Maple: Ancient Acharnai (Oxford University Press 2013), drew upon archaeological, epigraphical, and literary evidence to provide the first comprehensive study of the rural deme of Acharnai, the largest of the 139 demes that formed the backbone of the Athenian democratic system. Her current book project examines the effects of personal mobility on the Athenian democracy, in particular focusing on questions of status, identity, and political participation.
