Our Culture and Values
Our warm and inviting community is comprised of a diverse staff and a vibrant cohort of scholars who share a rich history of meaningful contributions to human knowledge.
Curiosity
We are moved by a legitimate interest in one another as people and as scholars. We are open and inclusive in the way we treat one another and pursue our work. We value diverse perspectives and experiences as they allow us to learn from each other.
Engagement
We show up for our own research and writing. We show up for the gift of time and space, and how it might change us. We show up for community, in lunchtime conversations and in what other ways we can. We recognize that active listening is also a valuable way of engaging.
Generosity
We are kind to ourselves, giving our projects the time they need, seeking and asking for, the resources, support, and rest we need. We share what we can, in the spirit of mutual discovery. We are intellectually generous, seeking value in and exercising respect for others’ approaches, work, concerns, and processes.
Holding Space
We exercise “negative capability” (John Keats) towards ourselves and our colleagues, leaving room for the unexpected and unforeseen to emerge. We give grace to ourselves and others. We honor each voice and story, all the while attending to how we come together in community.
