Teaching the Bible in Public Schools? History, Controversies, and Prospects

Many educators would agree that at least some familiarity with the Bible is important for cultural literacy, given the Bible’s impact on music, art, literature, and, of course, religion. But teaching about the Bible in public school settings has often proven controversial, legally and politically.
