Rastafarians

Members of a religious movement that originated in Jamaica in the 1930s who believe that Haile Selassie of Ethiopia (named Ras Tafari Makonnen before his coronation in 1930) fulfilled Marcus Garvey's prediction to "look to Africa for the crowning of a Black King [who] shall be the Redeemer." Rastafarian influence is significant in reggae music. There are about 180,000 Rastafarians worldwide.
