The Irish Celtic Revival of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries sought to define Irish identity by promoting the creation of literature rooted in Irish history, myth, and folklore. W.B. Yeats, J.M. Synge, and Sean O’Casey were major figures in the movement.
