Fellowship Work Summary, 2019–20

Seung-joon Lee drafted and revised several chapters of his book project Revolutions at the Canteens: Labor, Energy, and the Politics of Eating in Industrial China, for which five of six chapters have been completed. He submitted an invited book chapter, “Rice and Strikes: The Struggle for ‘Rice Allowance’ in 1930,” in an edited volume tentatively titled, Chinese Labor History (London: Verso, forthcoming). His article, “Airborne Prawns and Decayed Rice: Food Politics in Wartime Chongqing,” appeared in Journal of Modern Chinese History (13, no. 1, Sep. 2019). Another article, “Canteens and the Politics of Working-class Diets in Industrial China,” appeared in Modern Asian Studies (54, no. 1, Jan. 2020).
